The short version
We started because we could not find a coat that lasted more than two winters.
In 2014 two of us were pattern cutters, one was a mill agent, and one had just closed a shop. We had all watched the same thing happen: the fabric got thinner, the seams got faster, and the price stayed exactly where it was.
So we rented a room in Alcântara with three machines and made forty coats. They sold in nine days. We made forty more the next season, and we have not changed the number since — not because we cannot, but because the moment we do, someone stops checking the shoulder seam by hand.
Eleven years later there are fourteen of us, one workshop, and the same forty coats. Everything you see on this site was cut within 400 metres of where this was written.

Fibre traceable
Small runs, finished properly
Forty coats a season is what four people can close by hand without rushing the seams nobody sees. We would rather sell out than scale the number and lower the standard.
Fibres we can name
Every material is traced to a mill and, where we can, to a farm. Biella wool, Kaihara denim, Belgian flax. If we cannot name the source, we do not use it.
Repair before replace
A ten-year guarantee on outerwear. Send it back and we will re-stitch, darn, re-line or re-button it. The most sustainable garment is the one you already own.
Honest sizing
Our size guide is body measurements, not garment. Between sizes, we tell you which way to go, per piece. Alterations on tailoring are free, first time, always.
Materials
Wool from a mill in Biella that has been spinning since 1663. Denim from Kaihara in Hiroshima, on shuttle looms that produce a metre an hour. Linen from Belgian flax grown within 200km of the scutching mill.
None of this is cheap, and it is the entire reason a Vesper coat outlasts three of its competitors. We publish the mill for every fibre on every product page — not because it is good marketing, but because you should be able to check.
Traceability
We can trace 92% of our fibre by weight back to the farm or the recycling stream it came from. The remaining 8% is mostly trim — buttons, thread, interlining — where the supply chain is genuinely opaque and we are still working on it.
We would rather tell you the number honestly than round it up to a hundred and hope nobody asks.
Repairs & Alterations
Every garment carries a ten-year repair guarantee. Post it back with a note describing what went wrong and our workshop will re-stitch a seam, replace a button, darn a moth hole or re-line a coat. No receipt required — the label is the receipt.
For tailoring, the first alteration is free. Send your measurements and we will hem, take in or let out before it ships.
